The Turning Point

I'm a traveller, I love to see the world and surround myself in different cultures. In college, 2006 (we had been dating over 2 years at this point) I had the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy. Being half Italian, I couldn't let that opportunity slip through the cracks. I tried to get Brandon to go, but he wasn't all that interested. I knew I would miss him, but I was so excited to see Europe, to see where my dad was born, to meet family members for the first time, and to have a great adventure on my own! I absolutely loved it. Some of my most memorable experiences were the simple things. For example, I really enjoyed going grocery shopping on my own, or going out to dinner at a small hole in the wall restaurant. It gave me the chance to feel like a native & practice my Italian. I tried very hard not to speak English when I went out.According to Brandon's mom, as soon as I left he was a big mope. Within a week, he had his trip planned so that he could come and stay with me for the second half of my stay! This is completely out of character for Brandon.
He talked to all his teachers and worked out a way to keep up with his school work while abroad,
booked the plane ticket, and arranged all the details! He met me in Greece
during my spring break while I stayed with an aunt of mine. Back in
Florence he jumped around between different
hostels and sometimes my apartment (I had 5 other roommates and a twin bed).Every weekend we'd take a trip including Venice, Rome, Amsterdam for his bday, Pisa, Cinque Terra, and more.
It was so great to have him there to share in my adventure. It really showed me how committed he was. From the way he took initiative and made so much of an effort to come and see me, as well as how much FUN we had together - I knew that we were meant to be.
